I can't reproduce this issue on the latest trunk, with either release or debug executables. Could you please retest on 3.6.14 RC4 and if the problem persists, post a fs2_open.log?

Hi I've tested on 3.6.14 RC4 and still the problem persists. I've attached the fs2_open.log as you have suggested to see if you can make heads or tails of this.

I still can't reproduce this one, but I do hit issue 0002593 instead.

i.e.
create new pilot
enter campaign
crash (issue 0002593)

restart FSO
select pilot created last time
enter campaign, start 1st training mission
works fine

Can you confirm that this is where you get your crash?

Also, could you try to reproduce the issue when just using mediavps_3612 as your mod?

Lastly, if you're running Vista or Win7, could you please move your FSO installation to d:\games\freespace2 (just in case)

in regards to issue 0002593 the problem i'm having is the other way round

i.e.
create new pilot
enter campaign, start 1st training mission
works fine

restart FSO
select pilot created last time
enter campaign, crash (every time)

also tried using just mediavps_3612 with no options enabled under features.
and tried your suggestion of changing the install dir to d:\games\freespace2 as im using windows7 x64 but no change.

Can you retry with RC5 please. The pilot related issues should hopefully have been resolved, graphics corruption if present looks to be caused by something else.

Note the warning in the RC5 thread that there are some issues converting from retail pilot files (may not be the situation here, but worth noting)

Sorry been away. Ive tried it with RC5 but still to no avail the problems still persist.

Unfortunately the fs2open.log doesn't point to anything reportable tripping within the engine (not to say there definitely isn't a problem with fs2open).

Are you sure you aren't seeing some form of general Windows crash error report, saying for instance that the graphics driver has stopped responding?

hmmm... strange.

I've tried a full reinstall of FS2 & FSopen still got the same results. If remember rightly this problem only started occuring with 3.6.14/13, i will try reverting to a previous version tonight.

in regards to an error message, i get either of the following,

1. FSOPEN has stopped responding
2. Video driver has stopped resonding and has been recovered.(Am using AMD cards with 12.1/12.2 at the time will try 12.3 tonight, but i am switching over to an nvidia card to try as well)

Sounds an awful lot like a graphics card driver / system issue.

i agree with probable graphic driver issue. But with 'system issue' i don't know as its kept very clean and tidy in terms of os software, and the hardware hasn't changed in a bout a 6-8 months. will see tommorow when i swap my amd's for an nvidia card.

ok.. tried on catalyst version 12.3. and works perfectly, seems to have been a video driver issue with my current hardware (HD 6870 Xfire) as 'Echelon9' suggested. Thanks
