Summary | 0001865: Support ships and player death cause asteroids to self desturct
Description | I had a strange occurrence happen 4 times in a row and think I have somewhat narrowed it down to another possible support ship bug. I have a bunch of small asteroids that are hidden from sensors most of the time. Some of them have mines in the center. Everything works fine until I die then the asteroids just self destruct which causes the mines to die as well. Even the asteroids without mines seem to do it. The last 2 times it happened I took a screenshot of the event log. Low and behold a support ship died while I was waiting to respawn both times.
Additional Information | 3.6.10 r5032 in TBP. No crash or error log. Screenshots and mission attached. I do not recall this happening in previous builds but the AI didn't obey their attack orders so probably never needed to rearm.

Well my initial diagnosis was a bit backward. It's not the player's death and the support ships death that result in the asteroids blowing up. The player dies because the support ship does. So it's support ship dies, asteroids self destruct for no reason, and player just dies. I am using set-support-ship in this mission and have tried it with both support enable and disabled in the mission specs. Disabled in mission specs seemed to take a lot longer to get the bug but it still happened. |
Keep in mind that support ships have a large destruct radius. Are you sure the asteroids aren't just getting killed by the blast? |
Pretty sure it's not that. Have you seen the size of the moon landscape in TBP? The explosion from the support ship would need to be lethal more than half way across one of those. |
Not sure if this is the same problem or not but I just had a similar experience in FS2 as a client. I blew up 3 times for no reason. First one I thought maybe was lag and the cap ran into me but the other 2 were not explainable. There was a support ship in the game. I tried to check the F4 log but froze. There was also an Arcadia. That's a big immovable object (moon landscape/Arcadia) and support ship in both instances. |
