Summary0000992: GTA Charybidis has weird gun normals and firing points
DescriptionWhile playing Derelict "Quoth The Raven" (DL4-01-L3.FS2) where you have to destroy the AWACS Baldur, I've noticed that this ship has weird gun normals and firing points.

Even with media vps, GTA is picked from retail sparky_fs2.vp (awacs2t-01.pof)
Additional InformationWith my little knowledge about ModelView, I've edited and (I think) I've fixed the model. I've tweaked position, normals and FOVs.

I upload the fixed model. Please someone check it and if you find it is OK add it to next media vp edition.

It would be nice if you went ahead and fixed the textures on this while you're updating it. I think that DaBrain is trying to make it a point to do that for as many models as possible, and if he's already fixed the Charybidis then he probably won't replace the texture-fixed version with this one. That's his call though.

Doing it by the "creating efficient models" thing (I just feel bad quoting my own stuff. :() so that it makes proper use of mipmaps rather than a whole bunch of maps. Right now (the version you have, which should be the same as retail) uses 11 different texture maps. No more than 3 (only if 1 isn't possible) would be a much better place to have it both performance and memory wise.

That's one of the things that DaBrain is trying/wanting to do with all models I believe. That makes it use less memory, render faster, and it's easier to create new maps for (hi-res base maps, glow maps, spec maps, normal maps, etc.) since you don't have to create a bunch of new maps for the same model and can instead only do one or two for the same effect.

We'll just wait for DaBrain to comment then. He may be able to redo the textures for your fixed model easily (or not) so the decision of what to do is his.

No problem. Altering one model in the package isn't much work. It's on my list and will be in my WIP folder tomorrow.
