Summary0000793: Lucifer model seems to be broken
DescriptionI can't load some missions where a lucifer is involved. It says that there is an invalid subsystem name in a sexpression. I checked the code and it seems that the lucifer doesn't have any turret subsystem at all. The bug happens with all recent cvs versions and the media VPs 3.6.8 package.
To reproduce the bug try to load one of the Techroom missions which is called X_TO_DESTROY.

I have to add that this also happens with the media VP 3.6.7 package.

First, X_TO_DESTROY is not a mission that comes with a standard install of FS2 so if at all possible please attach it. The build may also be of relevance, but I somewhat doubt it. And if 3.6.7 is causing a problem, then it's not the model at all as the HTL lucifer is not even in the 3.6.7 VPs.

Furthermore, turrets in FS2 are not subsystems, they are submodels flagged as subsystems (the game treats them similarly, in that respect, but it's a difference that means you won't see turrets in PCS subsystem listings). The SEXP in question would be useful as it would point to the subsystem that's an issue. There's a pretty good chance this has nothing to do with turrets at all, but rather some variant of the "communication/communications" issue that crops up with media from time to time. Again, the mission file would help out there.

I'm sorry, I didn't know this wasn't a standard mission but where does it come from then? I installed a clean FS2, patched it and installed the media VPs (maybe I missed something). I should also be adding that I'm using Linux (sorry for ommitting that).
There is another mission where a lucifer is involved which doesn't load due to a similar error (again some turret is missing). It's the first mission, where a lucifer is participating in, of the "Derelict campaign" (that's actually why I'm so concerned about it :).
The file X_TO_DESTROY has been added as .tar.bz2 archive.

Looks like the upload corrupted, as it's registering as a 207 byte file. I'm fairly sure no useful amount of mission data can be encoded in that space. If you're still having issues with the upload, then the exact error message you are seeing would at least be a start.

That mission comes with the GOTY version of FS2, which not everyone has. :) Hence the confusion.

Looks corrupted to me.

Unfortunately, I haven't actually installed FS2 for over a year, so the GOTY missions are probably in a data folder about 3 hard drives back. :)

If you can run the mission yourself and provide us with the exact error, we can probably solve it based on that.

Freespace tried to use a wrong lucifer model for some reason (I guess it was the old one from Freespace II). I'm sorry for stealing your time but I was really sure it had something to do with the new models.
Maybe you could somehow provide a sanity check for the "new and old model fighting"?

Doubtful...if it becomes a serious problem perhaps, but the mVPs and some mods rely on Freespace 2 to quietly override models.
