Summary0000765: Lots of reproducable crashes
DescriptionCrashes in Linux every time more than one client is in a lobby. My Windows binary (admittedly not CVS and rather out of date) just crashes arbitrarily during missions.
Additional InformationMultiplayer stability is very low right now. I'd like to play through the coop campaign with some friends, but we're having trouble achieving compatible versions of FS2. I'm happy to report bugs, but it would be nice if there were error messages instead of crashes. Can FS detect incompatible versions? Are there incompatible versions? What does it really mean when I'm told I have Hacked Tables?

Do debug builds display any additional information?

We'd love to get multiplayer working too, but our only dedicated multiplayer programmer basically abandoned his work. We're trying to get some new things working, but it's tough with the few staff we have.

We really need more info on this... What builds are being used by everyone? What mission(s) is the crashing more evident on? Does it appear that any of the crashes happen at a particular game event (ship blown up, firing missile or beam, etc.)?

I will improve my report then, since there seems to be interest.

I appear to be able to crash reliably in the lobby when either the game versions do not match and/or only one instance is Inferno-enabled. (I corrected both discrepancies at once, so I cannot be sure which of the two fixed the issue.)

My gaming partner (dfryer) was getting reproducable crashes related to missiles/chaff in "Feint! Parry! Riposte!" and OpenAL on OSX. I will ask him to file a bug if the current version is still exhibiting that behavior.

Inferno builds aren't network compatible and any recent Inferno-enabled build shouldn't let you even use networking. If it was a recent build then there is deffinitely a bug there since you shouldn't have even been able to get that far with it.

There is a missile related issue with OS X that is under investigation. I thought I knew exactly what it was at once point but fixing that issue didn't actually fix the bug. Hopefully that will get found and fixed soon though as I hate that one network bug getting the better of me.
