| Summary | 0000739: Shimmering grid lines | ||||
| Description | The last several FRED2 versions have had a strange bug where the grid lines shimmer a lot when you move the camera. Only the white lines (the ones placed at regular intervals along the otherwise dark gray grid) exhibit this effect, but it's distracting enough that I have to turn off the grid altogether. This only occurs in HTL mode (-fredhtl) and there is no such shimmering otherwise, but HTL is necessary for it to load up many of the high-poly models without crashing. I have an older FRED2 build (dated 10/25) that doesn't have this problem (in either HTL or non-HTL mode), but am not sure exactly when this started happening. | ||||

have you tried anti-aliasing the gridlines? |
I always have that on but turning it off doesn't help. I don't think that option ever worked anyway, even in retail FRED2. |
Hm. have you tried modifying your Fullscreen Antialiasing settings? |
You mean the global driver-level settings? Those have no effect (and I don't think consumer video cards can do line antialiasing anyway). The jagged edges are not the issue though; it almost looks like there are gray lines overlapping the white lines at the same positions and FRED2 can't decide which ones to display. Are you getting this problem yourself? |

i see it now. smells like depth-fighting |

ok fixed and committed. please test when the next fred cvs build is released. |
I just tried the 1/25 version and it's unfortunately still there. |

LOL, i see that we merged FRED2 back into the FS2 project so i committed to the wrong directory :( I would attach one for you to test, but it looks like I can't upload to here for some reason. The warpcore ftp seems broken as well. edited on: 01-26-06 19:15 |

There should be a new FRED build out now if you want to test. |
This has been fixed in the 1/27 build. :) |
