| Description | Hi. I always notice, that VPs use a fair amount of space. How about a compressed Format? Or including a few Open Source Compression-Librarys like gzip or bzip2? Maybe in a way that you can use the normal VP format with gzip or bzip2 "on top" of it. Like "adveffects.vp.gz". And when someone doesn't like the loading-times, he could just uncompress the VP :) How about something like this in the future? | ||||

There is/was already a thread on HLP about this. There will probably be a compressed VP format at some point but it's extremely low priority. I want a compressed VP format so it will happen, but it will only hit CVS if the performance is acceptable. Zlib will most likely be used for the compression since it offers good compression/speed trade-off and has a good license. If that isn't good enough then something Zip based (like what the Quake-based series and Doom3 use). As Goober keeps saying though, "Mantis isn't for feature requests!", so this is getting closed. Just know that it's already on the todo list. |
