Summary0000682: Ships 'vanishing' from missions unexpectedly
DescriptionOkay, this is one freaky bug. I'm testing my initial export of the high-poly Dis in-game, and it looks fine at first; no complaints from modelview, FRED, the exporter, or in-game. All looks OK when it jumps in.
But when someone attacks it, it -vanishes-. Completely. Off the radar, nowhere to be seen in the battlefield, but it's still present. I can target it, but my lead indicator is glued to the top left corner of the screen.
But what's weirder is that all the ships that were attacking it -also- vanish completely. They're still in the game, I can issue orders to vanished wingmen, but all trace of the models are gone.
Weirdest of all, if I cheat and blow it up, then -I- vanish.
The screen goes totally black, the hud disappears, but I can still send and recieve messages and access the game menus.
Additional InformationThis is a very specific bug regarding just this early testing model, but Goober said it was worth mantising. I think the problem is that it has all the POF data for turrets but no turret subobjects, so when it tries to shoot the game goes nuts.
Play the FS2 mission 'Lion at the Door' (afaik the only FS2 mission with a Dis) to reproduce the bug.

It's something that's getting screwed up with the physics info (apparently). Haven't traced it any further than that yet but I'm guessing it's something docking related. I hit an Assert() as soon as the cargo container it's carrying got destroyed.

So is this resolved now? I tried the newer model and the mission works ok now with no crashing or strange problems.

Assuming this is no longer an issue since I can't recreate the original problem with the released models. Either way model bugs aren't code bugs and a debug build did catch this, though it didn't make much sense unless you were looking for it.
