| Summary | 0000653: wav files do not play in the breifing | ||||
| Description | Wav files will not play during the briefing. This happens all the time although some missions I have assigned music as the voice file in the briefing works fine. The music being played is also in the Music/ in the b5 core vp. The music has been assigned to briefing in my vp and works fine but none of the other voice (wav) briefings in the same folder work. | ||||

Same here, but I also don't hear the music ingame. However, after installing the OpenAL addition mentioned in the recent builds thread (1 post) it worked again. But what's OpenAL for anyway ? I'm not so happy installing additional stuff, when it worked without them in previous builds. Are there any special improvements when using this program ? |

It a cross platform Audio Language. The reason all new builds have it is to help taylor get the code ready. |

I already installed openAL a while ago but still have the same probs. Although 1 mission i recently updated has the speech working in the briefing, yet this is in exactly the same place (and same format) as the other non working mission briefings. Although I only tried this mission through the mission simulator which works fine. The other missions (in the b5 heat em up campaign) have been tested through the campaign mode. This may have something to do with it. |

Works for me. Is this still a problem? |

Closing for lack of response. |

Sorry havnt been back on here for the last week, had lots on. I worked out the bug over weekend, it is now fixed and can be closed. Reason for bug - With the adition of openAL to newer builds, this does not enable 8 bit stereo support for briefings. Only 16 bit stero supported. Sounds strange but did a lot of testing, tried converting the briefs over to 16 bit (44.00) stereo and works fine now. Please close |

|
Uh, wait a minute. Was 8 bit stereo supported before? |

Reminder sent to taylor Pinging taylor to get his opinion on this. |

There is another bug about the 8-bit sound problem. It's some strange OpenAL issue where it won't play 8-bit 22k stereo sounds. Going to 11k or 44k works and going 16-bit works. Going MS-ADPCM will work as well, it's just plain PCM that apparently has the problem. OpenAL does support this fine so it's just the code on our end, but I haven't found the problem yet. |
