Summary0000062: D3D Clipping Problems on Voodoo 3 2000, not DX/FS2 version specific
DescriptionFS2, both the original exe, DX8 exe, and presumably other FS2 exe versions,
have clipping problems seemingly caused by thin faces (for lack of a better
term) when run in D3D mode with a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI that don't appear when
using Glide. This is probably a driver specific problem, but I figured it
deserved reporting. Of the faces I've seen affected by this, on one of my
models, the affected areas are an indent, created by insetting a smaller face
into a larger one and moving it usually backwards along it's normal, and the
faces outside the indent. For example: On a turret with rectangular barrels I
didn't want just a flat face as the barrel. I used inset to split the end of
the barrel into a smaller face surrounded by connecting faces which are in turn
attached to the sides of the barrel. By moving the new face down, you get a
nice indent. (the opposite of a bevel) But in certain positions, the barrel
sides near the indent have clipping problems and you end up looking through the
barrel sides at the inset face. (If this explaination is too confusing I can
provide pics.)

Not sure if these problems are related or not, but:
1. There are also clipping problems where the barrels of said turret go through
the turret base. (Seperate subobjects for a multi-part turret.) The game
doesn't seem to know how much of the barrel sides to show there and it changes
as you move so it looks really odd.
2. Other faces, on my Brontos model, the Elysium, and even a TC2 cargo
container seem to flicker sometimes. In DX8 this problem doesn't seem to be as
severe. Again, probably a V3 specific problem.

Lowering the priority, see if Righteous can look at it? Assigning to RT because
I don;t see Righteous in the user list: RT can you ask him to sign up next time
you talk to him?
