| Summary | 0000606: FRED Deletes Ships From Missions | ||||
| Description | I've only encountered this once, but FRED deleted ships from a mission previously saved. I've tried this with several other missions, but it only showed up one one. I ended up with a tonne of errors because ships referenced in events, departure and arrival cues, were suddenly not there. Note, I was using TBP at the time. | ||||

Are you sure this isn't just the Ulysses problem? If you've only encountered it once, and can't reproduce it, there's not much we can do about it. edited on: 11-01-05 22:40 |

I'm certain that its not the Ulysses problem. This is with TBP, in a completely separate install from FS2. I may be playing with a customized version of TBP, but merely switching from one FRED build to another, with the same command line options, shouldn't make much of a difference. Also, in the Ulysses situation, if FRED can't find the class listed in the mission data, it will change it to the default craft, but retain the original object name. In this case, it deletes the craft entirely, but its not because it can't find the class. There are 4 ships of this type in the mission, and FRED removes 2 of them (Drakh Cruisers if you're interested). I'll do some more investigations of other missions, to see if I can nail it down some more. |

OK, I got it nailed down to the new multi-docking. It seems that there were some changes in steps between builds in how the mission parsing handles multi-docked objects. The method used by the 10/31 build is incompatible with any builds before or after. I removed the multi-dock lines from the 2 cruisers, then reopenned the mission in the new build and everything was fine. I then resaved the mission and took note of the changes in the parsing. It seems that 11/01 ordered the docked ships differently, both in the docking entries for each cruiser, but also the order of the raiders in the ship list. I'm not sure why that should make a difference. You may consider my current problem resolved, but it may not be the last. Oh, BTW, I LOVE the new multi-dock window in FRED in the 11/01 build! :-o edited on: 11-02-05 01:01 |

Apparently this isn't an issue unless Goober want to make it so FRED2 actually fixes previous missions. |
