| Summary | 0000589: EMP Advanced missile model doesn't show up correctly in loadout screen. | ||||
| Description | All I get is what looks like a blob of texture instead of the model of the missile. Currently on the 10/14/05 build, but this has shown up since I was using 3.6.5 release. | ||||

It's because of the 3d-generated interface. There's something more goofy going on here. I always thought it was mis-scaled or something, but when clicking on it (which should bring the model up in 3d in the animation box in the top right) I get no missile at all. Other missile models work fine on the EMP, so there's something FUBAR'd with the model. EDIT: That's an ugly-as-sin missile anyway, so if someone can make a higher-res texture I'll get a better replacement for the media VPs. edited on: 10-14-05 13:49 |

Well, I turned off the "use models for ship selection" feature and when I clicked on the line drawing for the missile, the nice fancy picture of it came up. Perhaps that could be used as a basis for the new model. Regardless, it's obvious this is only coming up with the feature enabled. As for the comment about it being ugly as sin, it's actually rather pretty in the image that comes up without the feature on. edited on: 10-14-05 14:17 |

That image has absolutely nothing to do with the model the game uses, unfortunately, and missile models must be very low-poly. I may have a solution, which I'll upload here shortly if it works ok. EDIT: Interesting to note that a new model more in line with the Volition standards does not, in fact, work. The EMP Advanced has a bunch of things wrong with it; the case in the table is different (should make no difference), the model is by far the worst of even the :v: missiles, and the EMP advanced is the only munition to not be offset from the centerpoint. However, fixing any and all of these things still doesn't correct the problem. And I can't see anywhere in the tables that should have anything at all to do with this. EDIT2: Got it. Attaching the file. This bug should be assigned to WMC so he can get the fixed file in either mv_models or mv_core. edited on: 10-14-05 15:41 |

The stuff in the techroom is supposed to automatically compute the camera position based on the bounding box. It would probably be much better and simpler to assume that the model is a perfect sphere and use the radius. |
|
|
I never looked at it in the tech room. This is something I noticed in the loadout screen for a mission. |

Gahh, I meant to say ship select screen. (although it's technically the weapon select screen. :P) Although my final intention is/was to have it use the model automagically in both the weapon select and techroom. Right now I think it's just implemented in the WEAPON SELECT screen. (Dammit, I did it in the same freakin' post) |

If it helps track the root bug, the problem was with the model's position. Having the pivot in the center of the model instead of its tail was the what made it display incorrectly. Not sure exactly why, but presumably theres either an assumption that all z coordinates for the bounding box will be negative or some funny math in the calculations. The file I uploaded is a slightly better (I use the term slightly very liberally, it's still aweful) model for the EMP Advanced anyway and is relatively small, so it should probably be added to the media vps just the same. |

Thanks again Stratcomm. This will either be included in Media VP 3.6.8 or 3.6.7 Patch 3 if there is a patch 3. |
