Summary0000573: Rotating submodels do not rotate in tech room
DescriptionRadar dishes, solar panels, gas collectors etc. don't rotate when the model is viewed in the tech room. Why not? This should be fixed.
Additional InformationThis would be helpful to modelers testing their rotation speed and direction etc. without having to load up a mission. And it looks cool.

Been like that since retail

While it wouldn't be a terrible idea to impliment this, I'm sure it's not a trivial change as turrets use rotation too and their behavior would be quite undefined.

Anyway, this too is a feature request and not a bug.

Turrets do use rotation but fs2 can tell them from simple rotating subobjects, after all in-game they aren't constantly turning.

I wasn't sure that turret/weapon code was fully loaded in the techroom. If it is, this should be trivial and I can think of no objections to having it in there.

I think the submodel rotation info is loaded along with the mission and not the model. Each instance of ship keeps this rotation info. There's probably a way to do this, but its far too much work for only the ships that would need it - Faustus, Knossos, and the few ships with rotating radar arrays.

Is this a feature request? They do not belong in mantis, so please spam the forums.

It could be viewed as a bugfix, but I would tend to agree. I'd leave it open for a while though.

Has this been open for a while then?

I suppose. Not sure what to do with it.

I'm just going to close this.
