Summary0000534: DaBrain's 3D Shockwaves
DescriptionInstead of getting an expanding shockwave, i get an expanding flare. I remedied this problem by deleting the .eff file and renamed one of the dds files, but the animation is dead and i'm not particularly satisfied. DaBrain said i should mantis this.

It'd also help if you attached all the files you used, including the .eff and .dds stuff.

It should also be mentioned that I think Cobra is the only one having this problem. It works fine for me on multiple systems and multiple video cards and I don't think that anyone else has complained about it either.

I got this same problem, all I ever saw was just the flare part of the explosion. But it seemed to have only happened with the super high res shockwave, the low end one worked fine for me.

Hmm, works fine for me. Had to check to make sure since there is no way in hell that I'll voluntarily use up 167meg of RAM for a single effect (ie. I use the smaller version).

Is the super-high-end version the only one that renders wrong? If so then it would just seem to be a loading issue where there is too much data to deal with and the system or video card can't handle it.

i'm using the exact same commandlines that i used for the other super-high-end (the fiery one), and i never got any problems with that.

CMD: -spec -glow -pcx32 -jpgtga -nomotiondebris -pcx2dds -d3d_no_vsync -dualscanlines -orbradar

Build: G20050728

System Specs:

2.7 GHz Celeron
256MB RAM
64MB Video Card RAM

Surprisingly, i can kep a good 30 FPS with just that.

And the files are too big to upload, I'm afraid.

Yeah that's really not enough of a system to run the super-high-end one. You would need at least 512meg of system RAM (probably 1gig) and a minimum of 128meg video RAM to display it properly.

If Axem can list his specs and they are lower than what I list above then I say this is not a code bug but just a case of the artwork being to much for the hardware. It renders ok for me but I've got a pretty beefy system and DaBrain has already said that the super-high-end version was only for cards with 256meg or more of video RAM.

My specs are:

AMD 2600+
512MB RAM
Radeon 9600 256MB
40GB WD HDD

I just tried DaB's High End Blue Shockwave, and I still only got the flare. The Mid Range one however did work.

Close this then?

No response, and people should be aware that their system may not be able to handle the high-end stuff. I'm closing it. :p
