Summary0000522: Engine flow direction is wrong on left side engine
DescriptionEngine flow direction in all fighters and bombers is a bit wrong. On the left thruster it goes too much to the left, while on the right thruster it goes straight back (when flying straight forward NO TURN).
Additional InformationAll graphic and resolution modes.

It seems like WMC took the MediaVP hint and took the bug. I assume this is an art problem, and should be fixed by whoever made the new thruster stuff.

It doesn't happen without the mediaVPs because without them there are no thruster trail graphics to display. I'm seeing the same thing with the Bob-LS hybrid trails, so it's not an art problem. However, as described, it's not 100% accurate either. Get some shots from above or below, because the discrepancy shown in the shots is simply a result of trying to look at a plane that always faces the player from the end. There's no good way to do it, so the graphic gets distorted. However, all of the fighter trails are bent a little to one side (as evidenced if looking from above) uniformly when flying straight. It's minor, and I never would have noticed it were it not for this bug, but it is there.

Goober actually assigned the bug to me. Like StratComm pointed out, there aren't any engine trails to display without the mediaVPs, so it'd be impossible to occur with them.

I've never looked at the relevant code before so I don't have a clue what's causing it.

All I know that it is not suppose to be that way, the engines should be symmetrical (am I right?). Look new screenies.

And you're right, AFAIK they should be symmetrical when you're not turning.

By any chance is the direction different between turning left and then going straight, and going right and then going straight?

Yay glowpoints!

Those pictures aren't terribly useful as they are too dark, but you can see the problem in top.jpg. The center of the blue trail should be under the myrmidon's dual tails (or at least the same distance from them on each side) yet this is clearly not the case. This minor deviation is almost certainly responsible for the asymmetry from behind, as per the always-facing-camera nature of the trails themselves.

This appears fixed for me now. I'll try and commit the changes to CVS later today and everyone can check me on it. The minor testing that I've done is fine, but I'm not sure if there would be any strange side effects because of it. I'll test a bit more before commit just to help make sure I'm not missing something obvious.
