| OS | XP Pro SP2 | ||||
| Product Version | 3.6.5 | ||||
| Summary | 0000490: It crashes when loading mission briefings. | ||||
| Description | I installed Freespace 2 and patched it to 1.2. I created a character, and played a mission to make sure it worked. I exited and then copied mv_adveffects.vp, mv_core.vp, mv_effects.vp, mv_music.vp, and mv_textures.vp to the Freespace 2 root directory and mv_models.vp to \data\models (all version 3.6.6). I installed Freespace 2 Open 3.6.5. I ran the launcher (and chose some command line options) and then clicked on my character once I got to the game. It asked me if I wanted to convert it and I clicked ok. I played a few missions without problems. I exited the game and restarted later. It again asked me if I wanted to convert my character, so I clicked ok. When I clicked to go to the mission briefing it crashed. I ran the launcher again and created another character and was able to play a mission without problems. I exited, restarted, and chose my new character. Again it crashed when loading the mission briefing. I've eliminated all command line options. It crashes when I use the 3.6.5 executable, the 3.6.5 debug executable, and the 20050728 executable. My computer freezes and I have to do a hard reset when I use the 20050728 debug executable. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Run the launcher, create a character, play a mission, exit, run the launcher, select that same character, go to start a mission. | ||||
| Additional Information | Here are my specs if they are relevant Mobile Athlon XP 2600+ Abit AN7 nForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset (latest non-beta chipset drivers) 2x512MB PC3200 6800GT (77.72 drivers) I don't have any problems with other games or plain Freespace 2, and I've run Memtest86+, Prime95, and the Atitool artifact scanner for hours without problems. | ||||

Move all the VP files somewhere else and then try it with the latest build and a new pilot. |

Reminder sent to feanor Could you please look into this bug again and report if moving the media VP's outside the FS2 directory helps? |

I'm calling this a non-bug. Probably the Mv-Music bug, and the user hasn't replied a week after the reminder has been sent. If feedback is given, this can be re-opened. |
