Summary0000423: Massive slow downs on weapon impacts followed by a CTD
DescriptionEverything runs very smooth, but as soon as you fire at something and see the weapons-impact effect, the game-performance breaks in the knees within a few seconds. Firing without having the shoots impacting something is no problem, only the impact (effects) are. sually, facing the so crippled model longer than 3 seconds crashes the game entirely.
Additional InformationThe last 3 or 4 builds that came out weren't playable for me anymore. All began with massive slow downs during battles. Old build fs2_open_r-T365.exe (messages.tbl test build by taylor) runs smooth, newer builds are simply too slow. (15-20 fps on my system) :( Could be ATI related.

If OpenGL works at all for you give it a try and see if you still get the slowdown. Some are reporting slowdowns in D3D only so it would help to know for sure that it's one or the other.

I want to make an addition to this (at least to the problem with the impact-effect), there is still this overall slowdown in battles he mentioned :

(Continued Post from Tolwyn's description above)

"Even more strange, when I turn away from the model I shoot at (if I do that fast enough before the game crashes), the game is smooth again. But when I face the ship again (the one I shoot at), it becomes extrem slow again, without shooting it again Usually, facing the so crippled model longer than 3 seconds crashes the game entirely"

System:

Intel P4, 3.2 GHz
1 GB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro (with newest Catalyst-Driver).

Launcher-Flags are only : -glow -jpgtga -fps -ambient_factor 125

(EDIT) BUG also occur when playing in OpenGL-Mode !!

I think this should be fixed in CVS but I'll wait until that's confirmed before marking as resolved.

Looks to be fixed in newest build. Reopen if it's still a problem.

Fixered.
