Summary0000395: Sunlight through ship
DescriptionI noticed this bug in WMCoolmon's 4/23 build when flying close to the front of a cruiser with the sun on the opposite side of the cruiser. When less than half of the sun was obscured by the front of the cruiser, the obscured part shone through the cruiser, as shown in the screenshot. When I moved slightly back, so that more than half of the sun was obscured, the issue went away and the sun blocked normally. This occurred several times in this mission; I haven't yet attempted to reproduce it in another mission. I'm running Windows XP on a P4 3.0 with 512 megs of RAM and a Radeon X300 with the 5.4 Catalyst drivers. I just recently updated the drivers; I didn't notice the bug before then, but since it would take a specific situation to notice it, that doesn't mean that it wasn't there before. I wasn't able to test this with Goober's most recent build, since I get a CTD whenever attempting to load a mission in it.

One clarification: the category of DirectX was incorrectly listed; I meant it to be under graphics. Also, this was observed under OpenGL. Sorry if there's an edit feature for that that I missed. :P

I'll update the thing.

Is this just with one model/ship? If so, which one? Can you also check with a not HTL'd model? (One with a low polycount.)

What commandlines are you using?

That reminds me, I've seen this in AA (Americas Army) too.

Still, anyone know a possible fix?

Backgrounds should be drawn first, only thing I can think of is that the zbuffer is messed.

Sticking a gr_zbuffer_clear() before ships and such are drawn may fix it.

Sorry it's been a while. I was just playing earlier today and noticed the same problem occurring with a non-HTL model, namely the Lucifer. I've attached another screenshot of it. Once again, it seems to occur only when less than half of the star is obscured. I also experienced what may have been a related problem; when looking at an Argo from the bottom, I was able to see through the ship, but it seemed as though the shinemaps were rendering properly, since there was a bluish tint to the area in question. This particular effect happened only once; in the next mission, the Argo rendered fine. For some reason, the screenshot I took of this second problem didn't save, but I'll take another shot of it if I see it again.
