OK, please answer ALL of these questions, then we can help you better: What build? What OS(version of windows)? OGL or D3D? What version of DX do you have installed? What is your graphics card? What version is your graphics card driver? How much memory does your computer have? What processor? Are you using any VP's not included on the FS2 CD's? ( MediaVP, campaigns, etc.) What command line arguments are you using? (copy and paste from the launcher) Do you get any erors, or odd things on screen (aside from the screen staying still)? |

Not sure what you mean by build, but the launcher is version 4.0, and fs_open is 3.6. OS is Windows 95/98. D3D. DirectX 9.0 SiS 630/730 Version 4.13.0001.2030. 496MB RAM Pentium 3 The only VP I'm using that I don't think is on the CD is the High Resolution one, however the game freezes up even without this option enabled. Again, I don't know what you mean by command line arguments, but the location of the fs_open file is: C:\Program Files\Freespace 2\FS2\fs2_open_3_6.exe. And no, there is nothing odd on the screen. The stars become streaks, but thats about it. I should mention that I tried it again, yesterday, and the game froze for several minutes and, after I'd hit Alt-Ctrl-Del several times, the screen moved again as if the resume play, then stopped again. So I rebooted. I hope this helps. This is getting very irritating. |

In the launcher, you can click all those options on and off? Now, above the clickable lists, there is a large bit where a line of text appears, select, copy and paste that text into this field. How fast is that Pentium 3? (Mhz) How do you use two versions of windows at the same time? With build I mean the version of FSO. I see you are using an on-board graphics card, is this correct? (The graphics card is on the motherboard?) If so, I'm sorry to say that there is no way you can use the current FSO. You can try the old engine build for multiplayer. (Look in the forums, sticky thread.) However, this does not include any single player options, like the new SEXP's. |

I don't know where to look for that text you're talking about. There are several clickable lists in the launcher. The registry and something called 'flags'. The CPU is 1Ghz, and its not two versions, 95/98 means that Windows 95 is the base OS and it was updated using a upgrade of Windows 98. So it's Windows 98 overtop Windows 95. And I don't know where to look for the the build of the game. My graphics card in onboard, but that has nothing to do with it. The game runs just fine. Always does. It's when I try to run the game through the launcher that doesn't work. You see, I played the game already, beat it, in fact. But I realized to my dismay that I did this both without any cutscenes and no automated voices reading out the debriefing text to me. I got this launcher from an FTP site because it supposedly would run .avi versions of the cutscenes so I could actually have them incorperated into the game. But now I want to try multiplayer games, but I can't because I can't get an ID on the website where I'm supposed to get it. I keep getting an error that won't let me get the ID. So -now- I want play the game over again with the cutscenes, but I -can't- because the game keeps freezing on me. ;-; If any of this is illegal, let me know. |

What is the filename of the FSO file? In the flags bit, there a few lines of text, rightabove the part with the command line options. Err, Launcher from some FTP site doesn't sound to good. Please go to the SCP forum and grab the latest launcher+a post 3.6 build. |

The launcher doesn't determine whether or not it can play AVI movies, the FS2_Open binary determines that. Are you saying that you played FS2_Open all the way through before? Which version? The graphics chipset that you are using was discontinued nearly 2 years ago and is technically not capable of properly running any version of FS2_Open released in the past year. The original FS2 should work fine though and older versions of FS2_Open might (older than 3.5.5). You can try running in software mode (-nohtl in the Launcher) and/or running in OpenGL mode. You won't really be able to use any of the MediaVPs though. |

Reminder sent to Mamacron So, are you still having this problem? |
|
|
Reminder sent to redmenace I have noticed that the common random crash (freeze) bug is resolved, but I could not find the "how to" fix the problem. My problem is IDENTICAL to the one reported on bug ID 0000263 wich you seem to have sent a reminder to the author, that would have fixed the problem. My system is an Duron 1.400 / 256, S3ProSavage graphic card (onboard) and sound also onboard. I had this problem with the HOTU version of the game, with random freezes, possibly due to a memory leak. Any hint on how to solve this for me? thanks in advance. |

S3 are not to be trusted. Honestly, I think it is your video card. I am think I should close this bug actually. |
|

Closered. Everyone reporting this problem has one thing in common, an old video card or one that doesn't support the needed features properly (or at all). There is nothing we can do about this except not make the game cool and I don't think the other 99% of the players will take that as an option. The short and long answer is "Get a new video card." If you are just into multiplayer then get the old engine client which is the original code release but with FS2NetD support added in: http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27037 |
