Summary0002593: Creating a new pilot, changing and saving "detail" options, and exiting--causes a crash.
Description
Creating a new pilot, changing the "detail" settings, clicking "accept" and exiting the game causes it to crash.

Steps To Reproduce
Create a new pilot (and tell the game to not show the "tips" again),
change the "detail" settings and click "accept",
exit the game.
Additional Information
As this crash only happens when exiting, the severity is not as bad as it would be if it happened mid-mission. But still, it seems to indicate a problem that needs addressing.

This is definitely a recent bug, not present in 3.6.12.

I have had slow exits on my Mac, not to be confused with crashes. It just takes quite a while for the game to actually exit. You're actually being confronted with a crash dialog? Or just what seems like it hangs? Your log is closed out without incident. I'm not saying the slow exit isn't a bug, but it's not exactly a crash. And it also happens to me no matter what I do in game.

It's definitely a crash, as in it crashes (literally) on exit, but creates no FSO log entry. It *does* however create an Apple crash report to send to Apple ("FS2_Open Quit Unexpectedly"). So yes, it actually does give me a (Apple OSX) crash dialog.

I just tested it again after building the FSO Trunk about an hour ago. Same result (and also the same result as doing the same thing on the 3.6.14 RC4 file downloaded from Hard Light).

Did you try following my steps to reproduce?

I'm at work, I will later. Was just reciting from memory for now.

Ok, no problem.

I just did a few more tests (though I'm at work too ;)).

It turns out that you don't have to change detail settings to reproduce it.

The *only* necessary condition is to create a *new* pilot, hit enter, click "select", (click "ok" or "don't show me this again" etc. on the game "tips" --doesn't matter what you choose) and then click on the "exit lift" to exit the game.

Here are a couple Apple crash logs that I made by doing the above steps twice in a row. (see attachments)

Note: It *will not* crash if exiting from a pilot that already exists. E.g. You make a pilot, exit, it crashes, you go back in and select that same pilot and exit again...no crash the second time.

jon118 - can you confirm if a newly created pilot also crashes when entering a campaign?
