| Summary | 0000241: Lead indicator has incorrect position offset from target | ||||
| Description | This occurs on every build since 3.6 released, flags and media vp have no effect: During play, the lead indicator is always offset from the target by a wide margin, as though the targetted ship was at a different position than where it is rendering. Difficult to play - no reliable lead indicator, so the shots are hard to line up. Worse, in order to lock missiles I have to target the misaligned indicator with the gunsight, preventing useful primary fire at the target. Near impossible to play on anything over very easy. Can provide screens if needed. I'm thinking the next bit is related, so I'm just adding it: 1, Text and some hud warnings do not display correctly in the center of the hud - elsewhere is fine. Most of the issues seem in fact related to the central area of the hud. 2, as the cursor is moved in the selection screens, any icons selected moveaway from the cursor, though the cursor remains as the hot spot focus. | ||||
| Additional Information | System: 2.8gig P4 HT 1gig dual Ch DDR, MSI 5950 Ultra 256meg vid, latest drivers (have tried several older as well) DirectX9c, WinXP Pro - has been reinstalled and tested fresh, no change. | ||||

Seems to have been a compatibility issue with XP - tried running in 98 compatibility mode and issue disappeared. What I don't get is now that I tried that the errors no longer occur whether compatibility is on or off. Probably something unique to this machine. Cheers. |

are you using non-standard resoultions? That would be anything other than 640x480 and 1024x768 |

No, just 1024x768. Solved itself after running once in compatibility mode though, so not sure what to think. Can no longer reproduce the issue. I'm attaching a gif showing what was happenning. Like I said though, I suspect it was something specific to my computer/software environment, which thankfully is no longer a problem. |

thats really odd. if you take of compatibility mode does it still work? |
Does it remain a constant distance from the ship onscreen, or does it get closer to the actual position onscreen as you get closer? It might be related to the bug occuring in higher resolutions. |

phreak: Yeah, it works fine now with or without compatibility on, all builds. I hope to never see it again! Reason I tried compatibility was because I was having the old afterburner bug when I tried a 3.5.x build - worked and figured well, can't hurt to try on 3.6.x. Once and it no longer causes issue though - I'm tempted to believe in gremlins. WMCoolmon: The distance was a bit less pronounced as the distance to target decreased. Always seemed to follow the same scale of error as well. |

Reminder sent to Hellbender Is this still a bug or is it fixed? |
I have this issue as well. Its not just the lead indicator though the grey background rectangle that is behind the fps meter among other things is also displaced. Tried to change compatibility mode but that didnt work |
mrmud: in all builds since 3.6? |
mrmud: And you are using 640x480 or 1024x768 resolution correct? Recent changes should fix most of this problem if it's because of non-standard resolutions but if it is standard then I'm not sure what's going on. |
Ops, sorry guys I was running at a higher resolution... And where can I download the most recent build that fixes this issue? |
There isn't a build available with the fix yet. There should be one out at some point next week though. Some of the text is still wrong at this point but all of the targeting stuff and lead indicator are correct. That should be it for this bug then. I'll keep working the remaining parts that are still offset using non-standard resolutions. |
The main bug here isn't really a game bug so this be closered. The non-standard res problem is a separate issue and has largely been addressed. |
