Summary0001857: fs2open 3.6.10-trunk crashes instantly at the start of Mission2 of STR (str02.fs2)
Descriptionfs2open 3.6.10-trunk crashes instantly at the start of mission2 of STR str02.fs2,

tested with PPC and Intel with 10.4.11 and 10.5.6.

command line is
-spec -glow -env -mipmap -nomotiondebris -missile_lighting -normal -3dshockwave -ambient_factor 87.00 -spec_exp 13 -spec_point 0.68 -spec_static 0.85 -spec_tube 0.4 -ogl_spec 77 -ship_choice_3d -weapon_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -snd_preload -fps -window -mod fsport-mediavps,fsport-str,fsport,mediavps

latest fsport3.1.1 and 3.6.10 mediavps installed, the first STR mission runs without problems

with the change -mod fsport-str,fsport mission2 of STR )str02.fs2) is working (but without mediavps it's not that nice)

ok, just to clarify this: MacOS X FS2open 3.6.10-trunk crashes instantly at the start of mission2 of STR str02.fs2 and also during other missions of STR
I tested a lot of different things and the cause of the crash are the fsport-mediavps.
I have no clue yet what in the fsport-mediavps causes the crash but it seem it's MacOS X related cos I heard no problems with the win-builds.

Could you post your fs2_open.log when this crash occurs too please? I'll take a look at this, but want to make sure my fsport setup is done in the same way.

Oh and a Mac OS X crash log from an Intel platform would be of assistance too.

ok, fs2_open.log from PPC u/l

just one thing - the crash does not occur if I remove the "models" folder from the (expanded) fsportmediavps folder ...
I added more and more models back. The fewer *pof files there are in the model folder the longer the mission lasts before it crashed or it does not crash till the end.
I'm not sure it is a specific model the causes the crash or it's the number of *.pof files that cause the crash.

well, tested on my MBP 10.5.6 Nvidia9400M, C2D, does not crash, so must be PPC related

that crash seems not to be STR or fsport_mediavps related; I had time to play around and the PPC crashes also playing Warzone, where the same crash occured later in the game...

What kind of hardware is your Tiger box? I'm guessing that's the PPC one, but what specifically?

Does it actually crash to desktop? Or does it freeze for a long time?

If it freezes, it might be generating IBX files for the models.

Yes. It crashes to desktop.

It is not while generating IBX files. That takes not so much more time on the G5 than on the MBP.
