Summary0001784: Missile indicator does not work all the time and/or quits working.
DescriptionNoticed this testing a multiplayer mission. I was host and only player. Noticed I was taking an unusual amount of hits from missiles. Keeping an eye out I noticed that while the launch message showed up and the warning noise was heard the indicators would disappear.

Tried the same mission again today and noticed the same thing again. This time though I noticed the indicator arrows even showed up only half there at times like they were hidden behind something with just the line at the tip visible. After that they disappeared entirely on my last respawn.
Additional InformationAttaching .rar containing the log and 3 screenshots. First 2 show the launch message with no arrows, third shows me dying from the missiles and there were plenty of them. Was a split second too late on hitting the key but it proves they were there. Will also attach mission I was playing.

First test was with Kara's TeamChatBuild.7z second was with the latest Knightly build.

Attached screen08.jpg showing the partial indicator.

This time I played a different mission and the problem was there just about from the start. Showed up right after I got real close to a SD Demon.

Tried without MediaVPs. The main problem was either not present or severely diminished in effect. Did see some line/no-arrows like in scrren08 still.

Does this happen only in MP? Or only in certain missions?

Haven't tried to reproduce it in single but it is defiantly not mission specific. I'd probably have to FRED something with enough missiles and make myself invincible to test it in single.

If you can make such a mission (preferably SP and only retail freespace data) and then post it here it would probably help solving this issue.

Attached 1784.rar containing several screenshots of the same behavior in single player. Also includes the log and multiplayer mission converted to single.

It took over 10 minutes to really start seeing the problem consistently just like it did in multi. It did start to happen sooner but unless you were actually looking for it you probably wouldn't notice it. Screen0123.jpg is a good example of how the indicators sometimes only partly appear. You will notice 4 yellow dots just to the right of the target direction red indicator arrow.

The mission was the one I saw the problem most frequently in in multi. It's an old mission from the PXO days I was testing for someone back then so it only uses retail data.

Shot in the dark here but I noticed in the log file something about weapon ### chasing countermeasure. That weapon number never exceeds 3 digits. Could this be something that happens when the missile number exceeds 999?

Oh an this test was on a different PC then I originally noticed the problem so it's not machine specific.

Played for 12 minutes on retail level. Nothing regarding this bug was detected. Played for 9 minutes on 3.6.8 zeta mediavps and to 22 minutes using time compression for the first 10 minutes. Nothing special here either.

I can't seem to be able to reproduce this bug - at least not with debug builds.

*bump*

Can we close this?

Well.. i was unable to reproduce this bug so left it open for other takers should some one else have better luck with it but for my part it can be closed - unless of course it can be reliably reproduced.

Well I just tried this again. Took a couple of missions to see it but it is still happening. Seems to start when there are a ton of missiles all homing in on you.

Can we get reconfirmation on this? I've just finished playing about 7 missions in a row purposefully with lots of missiles and could not reproduce enough to tell for sure.

I'm going to close this. It doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.
