Summary0001560: Graphics are plagued with extra polys/textures
DescriptionThis happens when using the fs2_open engine from cvs on linux 2.6.24 with an intel gma950. I don't really know how to explain the artifacts, so screenshots are available at:
http://terminalunix.com/~rsaxvc/fs2_open/screenshots/

these errors occur using the 3.6.9 mediaVPs and using the original vps.

That really seems a GPU problem (driver or even broken GPU) rather than FS_Open problem.

They seem artifacts caused by wrong Video RAM. See http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html

Or maybe you've just run out of VRAM.

Well, a number of other openGL games work fine (Sauerbraten, Warsow, neverball)

The glitches still happens with the original VPs, so I would expect that 64 megs of vram would be enough for the original set.

Looks like it "-nohtl" make everything look pretty good...except for the primary weapons, they're invisible.

In your command line have you got

-alpha_env
"Enables alpha environment mapping. OpenGL only. Environment mapping intensity will be determined from the alpha channel of specular maps. "

This is under the experimental section.

I have similar artifacts under windows in Beyond the Red Line, but when I remove this parameter everything seems to work fine.

-alpha_env does nothing when used alone or with -nohtl on either the standard vps or the mediavps.

* BUMP *

Is this still a problem with newer builds?

Have you tried updated drivers (not sure if any are available though)?

Try running a debug build and attach your ~/.fs2_open/data/fs2_open.log file.

I'm downloading the current svn version-will try now.

This seems to only happen on Intel Low-end GMA systems. Every other box I've used has handled it fine. I'd say it's resolved as well as it will be.

I blame integrated graphics cards.
