Summary0001472: Followup on issue 0001458: is-destroyed-delay & waves
DescriptionOriginal problem as described by Tolwyn:

I am not entirely sure whenever or not it is a bug. Anyways:

If one or more waves do not arrive (because their origin, a carrier, is destroyed), should the is-destroyed-delay goal be satisfied? Because it is not now. I believe, that in earlier builds ships, that were going to launch, must be destroyed with their mothership.

Last comment by karajorma was:

"It is only satisfied when all the waves that could arrive have been destroyed and that's the way it's been since retail.

I understand why that seems counter-intuitive if the vessel they launch from is destroyed but what if that vessel departs instead?"
Additional InformationI don't see why this is kept this way.. the problem of "what if that vessel departs instead?" is easy to solve.. whatever happens to the mothership should also happen to the not yet started waves. Meaning.. if the mothership departs.. the remaining waves depart.. if it gets destroyed, the remaining waves get destroyed. some waves where destroyed, then the mothership departs, neither condition is true for the wing which is devided into those waves, but destroyed-or-departed will still be true.

Is this not possible or problematic?

The waves cannot be recorded in the mission log as destroyed or departed, because they never existed in the first place. If the mothership never had a chance to launch them in the first place (either because the mothership was destroyed or departed itself) then the wings never have a chance to do anything.

This is required for mission logic as well as reverse compatibility, and will not be changed. You just need to learn how to FRED the mission to account for this possibility.
