Summary0000147: TNT2: D3D HTL Causes System Crash
DescriptionWhen in game using D3D HTL mode after some time playing (a few minutes) HUD and background disappears, and the game slows to the point to become unplayable.
Every graphics in the game is messed, including menus and so on.
This seems triggered by anis, in particular explosion ones.
After some conversation with RT we reached the assumption that it should be related to graphic card buffering, possibly vertex buffering.
Additional InformationThe reports on this have been affected by some confusion.
Some versions also shows random coloured lines along the screen in addition to the bug report.
See bug 103 for OGL.

if the vertex buffers are getting killed is there some way to telling?
we could rebuild them relitively easily

We are not sure Bobbau, it's a thesis suggested by the bug behaviour in some versions...
BTW, 03/23 Build blocks without showing the other problems, but always when there is an explosion.

I currently own a TNT2, but it is not in my PC right now (than god). If you really need a second tester, with win98SE, a P3 800 and 192MB RAM, i might be able to find some time to swap cards, test, and put my Radeon back in.

Its not low system mem thats the problem: hes got 512
Its not low video mem, it happens when using low detail textures.

The specs for the TNT2 say it does not support hardware texture and lighting, as the GeForce series was the first from NVIDIA to support it.

So, wouldn't you expect it not to work with any TNT2?

I don't know much in this respect, and maybe I'm totally off the ball here. Anyways if I am, forgive my ignorance.

It should work through software, just slowly.
And it does, it runs for a while and then falls over.

The OpenGL bug is fixed regarding the background and HUD problem and I assume it's working in D3D too. As long as it's used without the MediaVPs I think that the TNT will still work. Really needs to be officially below minimum specs though.

So can we just close this or does someone actually want to work more on it.

Basic bug is fixed but TNT2 is really below min requirements at this point. Not using the media VPs or the heavy graphics options should let it play though.
