| Summary | 0001292: AI sucks. Wingmen are stupid suicide heads | ||||
| Description | When attacking large ships wingmen not only shoot but ram the target not even trying to turn back after launching the bomb. And when the ship is destroyed they don't use full speed with afterburners to evade the shockwave. Because of this final fsport mission is almost impossible to complete | ||||

Some AI improvements that are desirable: 1. Wingmen should be more carefull when flying near large ships. 2. Wingmen should use afterburners not only when attacking but also when ordered to protect something and need to fly to it fast. They same for cover me. |

Erm... the AI code is complicated as all hell as is... Making them smarter would be comperable to making Vista worthwhile. |

And thats not a bug either. |

I'm not getting in to the "bug" summary on this one. There is not one issue here that is not well-documented. But I'll humor you and try to address your points. AI has been retarded since FS1 when it comes to flying near anything, much less large, complex objects, and in being in any way intelligent. This is the default, and the correct, behavior. If it changes, then a lot of balance changes with it. There are some issues with the way shockwave damage is dealt with in FS2 (ships aren't supposed to be unshielded and using bombs given its balance and, as you say, it shows) but they're retail features and not bugs. And I know of one mission off the top of my head that would be impossible (it's not an official campaign mission, but is retail) that would totally break if the AI knew how to use its afterburner to get there faster. And then there's getting anyone to touch the AI code. It's hairy, it's nasty, and every time someone messes with it he gets yelled at. Good luck finding a volunteer to make a change here, even if it was a legitimate problem. |

Exactly. This is one of those feature requests that won't be implemented for a long time, if ever. Closing the bug. |
