| Summary | 0001243: backgrounds | ||||
| Description | Well it seams that in fred, you cannot see the background of the mission, making it harder to see the nebula you are making, in retail you COULD see it. If theres a specific reason for this, it would be nice if it was an option then. | ||||

they show up here. Are you using the -jpgtga command line when running fred? also make sure the "show background" option is on. Use ctrl+shift+b to toggle. The background will always show up when the editor is open, but will not show up if this option is off. |
|
|
BTW, FRED will NOT show skyboxes. I recall older builds that did, from about a year ago or longer, but they haven't done this for a while. |

Weren't there wrong alpha channels in a lot of background nebulas causing them not to appear? Be sure you've got Taylor media patches. (I'm testing DaBrain's new media VPs, and because a doubt I have about alpha channel management I played with background nebulas, DDS format, and I can assure you, that FRED2 3.6.9. shows them). |

Along with what phreak and ARSPR said, make sure that you try a debug build and see if it's complaining about missing something. Also remember to run FRED with -mod if the backgrounds are in a moddir. And FRED does show skyboxes, I fixed a couple of issues with that several months ago. |

do any of these suggestions work? |

* BUMP * Any update Hunter? We'll just assume that you worked it out and this bug should be closed if we don't hear otherwise. |

There is definitely something off with the skyboxes. From what I can tell, it seems that FRED doesn't show TGA textures on skyboxes (which is what the starfield sphere uses), but PCX and DDS textures work fine. |
|
|
I believe this was due to my background feature. The bug was around for a few months but was subsequently squashed. I'll close this bug if nobody says otherwise within the next week or two. |
