Summary0001230: Neutral ships recognized as hostile
DescriptionNot sure if this is a true bug but I noticed this last night. Made a mission and was trying to get the AI not to attack. No matter what I did they would yell bandits incoming and attack so I tried making all the hostile ships neutral. Still were immediately attacked. Changing to unknown solved the problem but.
Additional Information3.6.9 final. AI were player ships in alpha and beta wings. Still using retail FRED2 but that shouldn't make a difference. Well acutally most of that editing was in notepad. :)

Neutral ships show up as hostile in retail. I think the different team names were used so that the NTF and Shivans still shot each other in the main campaign.

Try using the "Unknown" team, it turns the reticle that pink color.

Already been changed to unknown. It's still a bug when it comes to multiplayer though. An extrememly minor one but a bug none the less.

"Friendly" attacks "Neutral" in both retail and SCP. Multiplayer shouldn't make a difference here.

Can you upload a multiplayer mission where a friendly unit attacks a neutral unit in SCP but not retail?

I know freindly attacks neutral even in retail but should it? Neutral should be well neutral. Neither side should attack unless specifically told to do so. Even protecting and beam protecting the ships does not help. AI will yell bandits incoming and attack. Friendly should be for allies, Hostile for enemys, Unknown for those that are not know to be friendly, neutral, or hostile. Lets say you are having a meeting between the NTF and GTVA. If you have a neutral station then the friendly team will attack it. Doesn't seem right.

I'll try to put something together to see if there is any difference with the AI in retail.

Scratch this one. Even found the friendly attack neutral hidden in the docs so guess this one is my bad. Still makes no sense. Guess I'll go add "true neutral" ships to the wish list.

Yeah, Volition didn't do a good job naming the IFFs. "Friendly" attacks "Hostile" and "Neutral"; "Hostile" attacks "Friendly" and "Neutral"; "Neutral" attacks "Friendly". "Unknown" doesn't attack anyone.

Anyway, customizable IFFs have already been implemented. Search the forum/wiki for iff_defs.tbl.
