Summary | 0001159: Game starts at pause mode and Esc doesn't work
Description | When the game starts, I get a pause screen where Esc doesn't work. It only happens with the release build. Debug build works fine. Even if I press Esc, I cannot leave this pause screen. Whenever I press Esc, the pause box briefly dissapears showing the ingame screen but then it returns to pause. The mission time also advances a little. If I keep Esc key pressed, I can see how I slowly get 00:01, 00:02 ... To solve it, I have to Alt-Tab to another application, Alt-Tab to FS2 again and then the game is in "normal" pause. If I press Esc, I start playing. If this wasn't odd enough, it only happens once in each FS2 session. The next time I start a mission, the games works fine. Also, there are sligtly different behaviours for Full Screen mode and Windowed mode. In Full Screen the pause text is displayed over the briefing screen (StartPause-OverBriefing.jpg). In Windowed mode the pause text is displayed over the ingame screen (StartPause-InGame.jpg).

I get this too... Though it doesnt appear all the time. That is sometimes it does the 'autopause' and on the next try i cant get it to appear at all |
Although I don't know why this is happening (basically, it shouldn't), but if an Alt-TAB out and then back in will let it be fixed, then I know /what/ is causing it. I'll try and code up a few fixes (this is linked to movie, alt-tab & mouse stuff) and put out a new test build tonight or tomorrow. |
See if this build makes any difference: http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/willrobinson/hoopla.rar I don't think that it will actually fix this, but I'm going to just inch the various fixes in and stop at whatever actually works. The build linked above will be the same for all tests, I'll just update it as I go. I'm just hesitant to make too many changes for this until after 3.6.9 get released (since I'll have to undo/redo pretty much all of it later). |
it works on my system :) EDIT: I take it back. It works better than the previous build, but pause menu pops up from time to time (occured every time with the original dot9x build) |
Any progress is still progress. ;) I'll work in some other changes and let you know when the build is updated (some point later today). |
I'm sorry to say that, in my system, hoopla build behaves exactly as RC7.9x. I've got the pause screen in the first mission of every FS2 session. (I've played in full screen only). |
Try again with the updated hoopla build. I still can't replicate this, so I have no idea exactly what I'm trying to fix, but maybe there will be some good in there. If not then I'll put up a new build which just has a ton of debugging code in it to try and log where the problem might be located. |
This is going to drive me mad... I haven't tested your new hoopla but the issue doesn't appear anymore even with the original RC7.9x: + I haven't changed anything (no new drivers, no new software, no nothing in no way at all ...) + The day before yesterday I finished ItDoH4 mod suffering the issue. + Yesterday, I installed Awakenings for FSPort 3 in a new folder. I started the game with your 1st hoopla and the issue wasn't present. I just made a new pilot for this new mod. So I thought maybe it has something to do with the Mainhall (as FSPort 3 uses a different one). + Then I've tested other mods (Derelict, mediavps FS Main campaign, ItDoH4 ...) and it doesn't appear in any one. I've also used original RC7.9x and the issue is gone too. (I can't understand anything ...) |

Right now I have narrowed it down on my machine to opengl renderer, d3d8 works fine, no problems at all, it may be related to optimized dhzero drivers (for nvidia cards (my version is 0.9291)). I will try to change my drivers to newer/untmperred version soon. I think that everyone should check if they are using opengl renderer on an nvidia card and which drivers. Updating drivers did not help. Anyway my hardware configuration is as follows, Geforce5900, Athlon1800xp, 1GB RAM, Nforce2 based mainboard, cheap tv card (BT848 based I think), WL8305 wireless lan card, I'm also using usb keyboard and mouse. |
* BUMP * Can anyone still replicate this? |
I never suffered the issue again. I suppose you can close it. |
Not sure if this was a system type issue or a bug fix made it start working, but if it shows up again then reopen. |
