Summary0001028: Videoless cutscenes
DescriptionWhen starting the game, after the initial splash screen, there is approximately a 15-second wait before the cutscene starts, and after it begins there is no video (the audio plays fine, and after hitting Escape the Pilot Selection screen comes up as normal.) This happens for cutscenes in the campaign as well (slow loading, no video.)

This happens every time on the release build with OpenGL selected; however, with Direct3D8 selected - or with the debug build with any renderer selected - this bug does not appear.

3.6.9 RC6, 3.6.8 Zeta w/ 710 patches (no mv_adveffects), XviD cutscenes
A64 3000+ (Winchester)
1GB DDR400 RAM
NVIDIA GF6600 256MB (ForceWare 91.28)
Windows XP Pro SP2

Same here actually. Works in D3D, not in OGL.

Curiously the cutscenes in the campaign *sometimes* appear in OGL, though the intro never does.

Except I already have the XviD codec. :)

Apparently only the first cutscene played will do this, then the rest will play normally. When I fired up WCSaga just now, the intro was blank but the first campaign cutscene worked. If I disabled the intro, the first campaign cutscene was blank.

No cutscenes play for me at all. :(

taylor: I have the XviD codec (I can see the videos on the debug build, and in VLC and MPC from Windows.)

Hmm... it looks like a weird AA problem. Despite the fact that AA was set to "application-controlled", and there was no FS2-specific profile to alter that, creating a FS2-specific profile and setting antialiasing to "none" fixed the issue.

Ok, I don't really think that we can actually code around this. It's some issue with the media overlay and how it deals with OpenGL in drawing. Vista handles this stuff a little differently so it might automatically get fixed there. But, we are dropping AVI support anyway, so we don't really care about this anymore. Just going to close this.
