Are you running fullscreen or in a window?

minimizing any game is receipe for disaster and can cause unintended problems. you should run with the -window command line so it runs in a window and you can then safely alt-tab.

This is a known problem with the newer Nvidia cards (and possibly the drivers too). I wasn't able to get rid of it until I switched video cards, but I think someone on the forums said it doesn't happen in the non-P4 optimized builds.

I haven't been able to recreate this on my system (my windows box is crap though) so it's rather difficult to do anything about. ALT-TABing out is a bad idea in general so most of the problem will get shifted to that. And it can be driver related as well. There is probably some code changes that we can make to reduce the problem, but without a way to test the success of those changes, I'm not going to make them.

A Google search pulls up quite a few similar issues for many different commercial games so I know this isn't isolated to a basic SCP code problem. Basic suggestions are to upgrade drivers, increase pagefile size, better cooling, make sure to not be running WindowBlinds, and other similar things.

I think we are just going to give the same advice and file this as a "Not-A-SCP-Bug" issue ... but maybe to be looked at in the future if a dev can reproduce this.

Setting to FSO 4, might take a look at this later. For now though it's going to be a can't/won't fix issue.

Closered.
