Summary0001665: thruster effects not showing up on some ships
DescriptionUsing this build: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,52655.msg1077771.html#msg1077771
and MediaVPs 3.6.10 Beta

Shivan and Vasudan fighters (at least) don't seem to have any thrusters although I noticed a Fenris missing them too. Player ship is alright though. Also, I'm getting some white pixels on the ends of the effects where they should be transparent. IIRC this was a bug before and it got crushed, but now it's back.

Only ships appearing in mid mission are affected, I believe. Mostly caps, really. You do not need media VP or a specific build. This happens with every recent build. Sometimes thrusters are there, sometimes there aren't. There is no real pattern.

This issue appears in all the versions of FSOpen 3.6.10. It appears on ship classes that arrive after the player.

The white pixel thing is a media issue, somewhat. Though it's sort of code too -- just the left-most pixel column of the thruster image ends up being displayed on the right-most end of the thruster in game (from the perspective of viewing the ship's left side), with the rest of the image displayed normally. Not sure why it renders this way, but the latest MediaVP thruster effects work around it by making the left-most pixel column black.

As for the effects not showing up, it's not just caps, it's just about any ship that arrives mid-mission -- at least that's what they all have in common. But like Tolwyn says, once in a while it doesn't happen, which is frustrating to test.

The problem is already known, and fixed, it's just not in SVN yet.
